BMSS took a team to the 9th Future Stars Meet hosted by our near neighbours Wigan BEST. This meet is a very competitive one and the swimmers are of very high calibre, so the competition is fierce at this meet but the swimmers at BMSS who attended took them on and managed to pull out some amazing performances.
As well as a haul of medals that were won, that I will mention later, the most pleasing thing to see was the hard work in training is paying off, both in terms of the pacing of races and the skills involved in these races.
There were many personal highlights for each swimmer this weekend, and most swimmers PB’d in at least 1 event. There were shows of hard work and determination paying off from the likes of Josh King, Luke Berry, Callie Wood, Ella Carter, Sophie Crooks, Tess Fordham, Kate Forshaw and Bethany Shum. Other swimmers like Grace Wightman-Love, Georgiana Bot, Olivia Hughes, Mark Tompsett and Abbie Brennand, all showed great resilience to come to the meet and face some tough asks emotionally and mentally, over came these hurdles and swam some very impressive performance throughout the meet. There were swimmers who continue to show some amazing promise both in their talent and their attitude towards competition and racing, well done to Eleanor Kay, Grace Hyde, Frankie Cullen, Oliver Crooks, Lisa Barzaghi, Holly Kalns, Neve Prior and Jack Ashton- and keep up the fantastic work. Experienced performers such as Gabe Taylor-Rimmer, Georgia Ashton, Georgia Heath, Tom Duxbury and Adam Akik also showed some very good early season form and their swims are very encouraging for the start of the season.
The medals mentioned in the table show a huge range of different swimmers and a wide range of events, showing the depth of talent we have across the squad. As well as personal success the team managed to finish 4th in the overall top visiting club, behind City of Liverpool, Salford and Manchester. Considering the size of the clubs there and amount of great swimmers competing this is a huge step forward for the club.
A huge and sincere well done to all of you who swam this weekend, I am really proud of the way you stood up and took on the competition. Keep up this good form and great work in training and this season will be heading in the right direction. Thanks to all the TMs that helped this weekend and to Rory for all the help on poolside!!
